How To Beat ‘Christmas Bloat’ With These Anti-Inflammatory Foods

1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Add 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a cup of warm water and drink 20-30 minutes before your big meal. Apple cider vinegar helps with digestion. The acetic acid suppresses the appetite, increases metabolism and helps reduce water retention. Science has also shown that drinking Apple Cider Vinegar before a starch based meal can reduce blood sugar spikes that would usually occur post meal. Perfect before the big Christmas dinner!

2. Fennel Seeds

Chew fennel seeds after eating to aid digestion. Fennel seed helps to reduce bloating, gas and cramps. You can also try fennel tea in the evening before bed.


3. Blueberries and Walnuts

The perfect healthy snack if entertaining guests. Blueberries are very high in antioxidants and walnuts are high in Omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids are anti inflammatory. Opt for organic berries to minimize pesticide and herbicide residue. A handful combined together makes a delicious and healthy snack.

4. Cucumber and Guacamole

Again another favourite snack and tapenade, for when entertaining guests. Mash some avocados with lime juice, sea salt and finely chopped spring onion. Avocados are packed with Omega 3 essential fatty acids that help mop up inflammation. Cucumber is the perfect cooling food for reducing heat and pacifying too much heat in the Ayurveda pitta types.

5. Turmeric Latte

Skip desert and treat your family/ guests to a turmeric latte post Christmas dinner. Curcumin is the main chemical compound in Turmeric, responsible for it’s powerful anti inflammatory effects and is also a strong antioxidant. Simply heat in a pan your favourite milk organic whole milk/ almond/ coconut/ hemp milk and add a teaspoon of turmeric powder, a little black pepper (key for releasing the curcumin), ½ teaspoon cinnamon, ½ teaspoon ground ginger or grated ginger, don’t let it boil just heat up enough to drink.
