Interior Styling Tip By the Independent Eye

Katherina Saunders from the Independent Eye featured on Almost Essential as a recommended Interior Stylist showcases us one of her project; the “after’ result is brilliant.

“I don’t often get the opportunity to post before and after photos of my work but my lovely young client, mother of 2 was so happy with all the suggestions I made for her that she got right to it. With my advice, she changed a sitting room that she couldn’t stand into a room that she and the family now love.

I am sure you know what it is like with young children, they seem to end up taking over the entire house. It doesn’t have to be that way and this sitting room is proof of that.

This is how we did it:

BEFORE

BEFORE

BEFORE

The chest of drawers on the right of the fireplace was bought down from the bedroom to replace a table that was too high and big for the space. It fits perfectly and creates more storage.

AFTER

She replaced the footstool that was there with a larger one and I helped her choose the fabric.

AFTER

To add to intermittent seating for when they entertained I suggested the corner club fenders from @fionawilbraham

AFTER

She replaced the existing rug with a plain, calm, jute rug and bought a new sofa which was large enough to seat the family. To facilitate that we replaced the box side tables and table lamps with a pair of standard lights that gave much better lighting and also freed up space.

AFTER

She now has a lovely tray on the ottoman to place drinks.
